Trossard exit looms for Brighton, after feud between player and his manager

The Belgian midfielder handed in a transfer request earlier in the week, after being excluded from Brighton and Hove Albion’s last two games.

The £18m club-record signing in June 2019 , was exiled by manager Roberto De Zerbi from the Seagulls Third Round FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough, following the player’s absence in training.

According to his agent Josy Comhair, the 28-year-old had asked medical staff for permission to leave training early, regarding a calf injury. Although, his manager has since enforced the player to train on his own and omitted the player from Brighton’s squad in the 3-0 victory against Liverpool at the weekend.

Trossard’s agent Comhair, released a statement on Friday which stated that De Zerbi had ignored Trossard for weeks, ever since the player was involved in a training ground altercation with another teammate.

The club are willing to sell the player in January, with his contract set to expire this summer, and are holding out on a fee of £25m.

Tottenham have already lodged an unsuccessful £12m bid for Brighton’s top scorer in all competitions, but will need to up their price if they are to secure his signature.

It appears that Trossard, will likely remain in the Premier league with Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle all interested in signing the attacker.

However, manager Roberto De Zerbi did offer a way back for the former Genk player if he wanted to remain on the South Coast.

Speaking in a press conference before the Liverpool game he said:

“I am ready to open the door for him [Trossard] because he is a good guy and a very good player for us”

However, his agent labelled the former Shakhtar Donetsk manager’s handling of the situation as “truly incomprehensible”, as a feud materialised between both parties.

De Zerbi recently implied he believed Trossard’s agent was facilitating a move away, in a bid to get a transfer fee before the player becomes a free agent in June.

The playmaker has scored seven goals in 16 appearances this season, including a hat-trick against Liverpool.

He would be a perfect cut-price alternative for Arsenal, after the league leaders missed out on primary target Mykhaylo Mudryk who joined Chelsea in a £88m deal.

Either way, Brighton are flying without their talisman with three wins in a row during his expulsion and they are currently seventh in the Premier league table.

Who should Trossard join?
